YOUR STORIES COMPLETE THE
PICTURE

This is a deeply personal project to remember and
honor my parents, Mike and Teresa Shook, who were taken
from us far too soon.
I'm building something called "The Shook Project" - an effort
to gather stories, photos, and memories of
who they were as people.
My dad, Mike, was a teacher and well-loved in the community,
and I know my mother, Teresa, was
deeply kind and full of love.
If you were a student, a colleague, a neighbor, or simply
someone who knew them, I would be
incredibly grateful for any stories, photos, or thoughts you can
share.
Every memory helps fill in the picture of who they were - not
just for me, but for my children too.
Thank you for helping me preserve this legacy

📰 Why I Created The Shook Project

I’ve carried this story with me my whole life. When I was two and a half years old, both of my parents—Mike and Teresa Shook—were suddenly and tragically taken from this world. I never got the chance to truly know them. What I had were fragments: newspaper clippings, whispered memories, and the heavy silence that trauma leaves behind.Today, I’m a wife, a mother of five, and a college student at Montana Tech, studying Environmental Engineering. I was recently nominated for the Goldwater Scholarship, one of the most prestigious honors for undergraduate researchers in the country. Now, over four decades later, I’m ready to tell their story—and mine. The Shook Project was born from a deep need to reconnect. To reclaim my parents not as headlines, not as a tragic story, but as real, full, loving people. My dad was a teacher. My mom, by all accounts, was kind and deeply warm-hearted. But I never got to see that for myself.I’m working on a memoir that weaves together my personal story, my search for truth, and the broader system failures that let so much pain go unanswered. But I can’t do this alone. That’s why I’ve created The Shook Project—not just for my book but as a living tribute. A space to collect memories, photos, and reflections from anyone who knew them.If you were a friend, a neighbor, a student, a colleague—if they touched your life in any way—I would be so deeply grateful to hear from you. This is for me, for my children, and for everyone who has ever longed to know the people they lost.Thank you for being part of this.

With love,
Megan Shook
